Landscaping: Mulch

Neatly mulched beds improve the appearance of any landscape. But beyond its appearance, a layer of mulch provides many other benefits. Mulch protects the plants root system and can add much-needed nutrients to the soil. Mulch slows the erosion of topsoil. Applying mulch now can actually save you effort later in the season.

Cypress Mulch

Cypress mulch is often considered the gold standard of wood-based garden mulches due to its excellent water holding properties and resistance to rot. It can last up to five times longer than a similar quantity of pine straw mulch. It has a fine, light texture that makes it easy to apply and it comes in a pleasing range of colors including red, gold, brown and black. Cypress mulch offers a pleasant aroma due to the cypress oil it contains, and this oil is also touted as offering a degree of natural pest resistance. Its soft texture makes it a good covering for paths and to provide safe landing areas beneath playground structures.
